In only one year the Apple iPad has revolutionized the tech industry. 15 Million iPads have been sold and estimates are that within the next 3 years over 115 million tablets will be shipped. Dozens if not hundreds of applications have been created that enhance the quality of life for individuals with all types of disabilities.

    Counting Beads is a totally fun way for children to learn numbers and letters of the alphabet.  The numbers (or letters) appear as colored beads that you connect by dragging each bead into its next higher numbered bead.  As you connect the beads in numbered order, you create a chain that follows the lead bead as you drag.  This teaches the numbers visually.  You can also move the bead chain by holding the device face-up parallel to the floor and tilting it slightly to let gravity roll the leading bead downhill.  Even older folks can have fun with this amusing simple game.

    Easy to use (my two -year-old clients) make their own schedules (they add and delete pictures in seconds) so we can get back to therapy.
    Horizontal/vertical layout – so you can use it as a choice board.
    Add your own alarm sound (“Johnny, all done with that.  Time for the next game.”)
    @ $5.99 it is by far the best scheduling app (and one of a kind); It does far more what other schedules apps don’t do.

    There is a wonderful, relatively-new app for children and adolescents, called Sosh. It was developed by Dr. Mark Bowers and Dr. Kelly Bowers as a tool for improving social skills. It’s a comprehensive and valuable mobile resource for children and teens who struggle with self-regulation, social communication skills, managing stress . . . there are multiple uses for this app. As a parent of a child with multiple special needs, including ASD and epilepsy, this is going to be a tool that should prove very useful in these upcoming tween years.     I use Chore Pad HD for all kinds of stuff, not just lists of chores. It can be used to reward children through any kind of daily or weekly routines.     I use an app called BehaviorLENS.  It allows you to collect and progress monitor behavior through Interval Recording, Frequency count, Duration and ABC data.  It provides very helpful reports for the student, a peer, and teacher’s activities.
